Hi! My name is Royston, a final year student at SUTD-SMU, studying Business Management and Engineering. Completing the EdUp courses has helped ease me into my current role as a Trading Analyst Intern at Modular Asset Management.
Why did you decide to learn Web App Development & Digital Marketing at EdUp?
I took up the courses because one of my dreams is to start my own business. When I was younger, I did drop shipping on Shopee and built my own website using WordPress. Hence, I took up the Web App Development Course because I wanted to learn how to code my own website and have the freedom to customise my website however I like. Also, as a budding entrepreneur, it’s also essential to learn the ropes of Digital Marketing to market my products or services.

What I enjoyed most was that the trainers are very friendly and willing to teach. My trainer even went out of the way to teach me other topics that I was interested in learning. This makes the experience very unique.
For the digital marketing course, it was a fruitful experience where we had the opportunity to work with other coursemates on a group project to come up with a marketing plan. This helps us to put what we learn into practice, as well as to learn from each other.
Why is it important to upskill as a student?
The most obvious reason would be to equip ourselves with relevant skill sets so that we remain employable. COVID-19 has accelerated the digital transformation of many businesses, and thus tech skills are in high demand by many companies, and they are willing to pay good money for top talents!
How have the courses empowered you?
The Web App Development course has allowed me to gain more familiarity with the web development process. This helped me a lot when it comes to communicating with software engineers back when I was interning at a software development company and with some of my coding projects in school, especially those that involve the use of HTML and CSS.
The Digital Marketing course allowed me to gain a foundation in digital marketing tools, funnels, and key metrics.
